Assistant Access Services Manager

The Assistant Access Services Manager supports the Library's educational mission by working closely with faculty members to create and maintain the Library's Reserve collection each semester. They also support library operations by supervising Service Desk operations and student assistants during evening and weekend shifts. The person in this position is responsible for opening and/or closing the library multiple times a week.

Required Knowledge:
Bachelor’s Degree or current enrollment in a baccalaureate degree program. Ability to operate a computer and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook Word, Excel and Access and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and/or Firefox Knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to handle stressful interactions with patrons.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
Familiarity with integrated library system software, for example Voyager or Aleph software, especially the Circulation and Reserves functions.

Required Prior Work Experience:
1 year experience working with customers or academic community members.

Job Duties:
  • Support academic instruction by maintaining the Reserve collection. Coordinate required reading lists from the Bookstore and individual faculty requests, create reserve lists in the Library’s automated system, and move requested materials from the main stacks to the reserve shelves. Coordinate reserve book orders with the Collection Development Librarian and Acquisitions Manager. Record and compile statistics on reserves.
  • Manage Service Desk operations during evenings and weekends by assisting in the training, supervising, and evaluation of Service Desk Leaders and Service Desk Attendants. Responsible for opening and/or closing the library multiple times a week, recording statistics on library usage to aid in library planning, and counting and recording the cash drawer.
  • Assist patrons at the Service Desk by charging and discharging materials, creating user accounts, explaining and enforcing library policies, and providing basic reference services and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate electronic reserves, and direct faculty to Library Liaisons for assistance when appropriate. Aid faculty by scanning documents, linking articles, and uploading articles within course management systems. Support compliance with the College’s copyright policy by providing guidelines to faculty members. Record and compile statistics on e-reserves.
  • Maintain the Library’s circulating collection by supervising and assisting with shelving and shelf reading, participating in stack planning and inventories, performing minor book repairs, and routing damaged books and periodicals to Systems & Technology when repairs cannot be managed in-house. Evaluate and retrieve basement storage item requests.
