The University of Massachusetts Amherst, the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, is a nationally ranked public research university. The Journalism Department is accepting applications for a full-time non-tenure track Lecturer in Strategic Communications to begin on September 1, 2018. The chosen candidate will have wide latitude to shape a strategic communication curriculum and design new courses in concert with the departmental curriculum committee and department chair. The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching three course sections during the fall semester and three course sections during the spring semester. The initial appointment is for two academic years, with the possibility of reappointment contingent upon performance and funding availability.

Candidates with backgrounds in writing for public relations, integrated digital media, social media communications, nonprofit communications and / or health communications are especially encouraged to apply, as are candidates experienced with blended and online classes.

The Journalism Department is a collegial and dynamic group. Our focus is on quality undergraduate education, with our instructors and courses consistently receiving some of the highest student evaluation scores in the college. Our research profile and community outreach have grown quickly in recent years.


Applicants are required to have, at minimum, a master's degree. Candidates with an M.B.A. or a Ph.D. with a focus on mass communications, advertising, integrated marketing communication or another related field are preferred. ABD, with expected completion by August 31, 2018, will be considered. Candidates with professional experience in public relations and/or previous college teaching experience are strongly preferred.
