Communication Studies: Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor
Communication Studies – Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Communication Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning the 2018-2019 academic year. Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus. Rock Island, Illinois, is part of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents, located about three hours west of Chicago and 45 minutes east of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa.
Position summary: We seek a colleague who can strengthen or complement one of the department’s core areas: rhetorical/political, interpersonal/intercultural, organizational/business, health, media studies. Your primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate Comm courses. Our other responsibilities include advising students, participating in course and program development, pursuing scholarly and professional activities, performing college and professional service, working cooperatively with diverse groups, and helping students engage with, lead, and serve their communities. We also teach courses in, and in support of, Women & Gender Studies, First-Year Inquiry and Public Health.
Program distinctions: our department is one of the college’s largest; it’s high-achieving, cheerful, collaborative and flexible. Our curriculum has twice received NCA’s Rex Mix award for excellence, we are regularly called upon to provide leadership to the campus and community, and we work with a bright, diverse and ambitious group of students. Augustana transitions from trimesters to semesters in 2019, so our new colleague will help re-imagine and reconstruct our major.
We encourage applicants with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations. Ph.D. is strongly preferred, although ABD will be considered.
