I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Program Manager, Education will be a part of the senior team of the Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, an office under the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement. The incumbent is responsible for the overall development, organization, operation, assessment and coordination of ArtReach at THEARC for the George Washington University, including all community arts education programs, exhibitions and external partner collaborations related to the program. As such, the incumbent assumes responsibility in recruiting, selecting, training, supervising and evaluating all staff members working with ArtReach and the Community Gallery at THEARC. Primary functions for this will come in the following areas: Staff and Program Development; Communications, Development and Marketing; Fundraising and Financial Planning; Community Relations; and Exhibitions and Special Projects.

Specific duties for this position include:

Establishes goals and strategic initiatives to further the mission of ArtReach programming.

Designs interdisciplinary studio-based ArtReach program curriculum, implementation, and evaluation that align with the goals and mission of the program, and reflect the needs of the partnerships and community.

Oversees projects, such as the ArtReach Master Class, Artist in Residence, and innovative community exhibitions, performance and public art.

Actively identifies and cultivates opportunities and partnerships with humanities organizations, social services agencies, neighborhood associations, environmental organizations, local and international artists, faculty, students and alumni.

Works with the Nashman Center to collaborate with and leverage the academic, student, arts, civic, and other resources of GW in partnership with THEARC and the community.

Identifies areas of donor cultivation and coordinate site visits for donors and potential supporters, board members, and other interested parties.

Develops information for newsletters, press releases, and all other publicity pertaining to ArtReach.

Develops an annual budget and identify areas of future fundraising while leading overall development efforts for ArtReach

Fosters diverse arts community partnerships, assess audience needs of the Ward 7 and 8 community and develop additional, self-supporting, programs.

Works with partner organizations to design collaborative youth and inter-generational programming.

Curates exhibitions and oversee gallery operations for the ArtReach Community Gallery at THEARC (12 exhibitions annually highlighting local artists, community organizations, and schools).

Organizes and engages community members through a diverse range of intergenerational participatory gallery activities and meaningful, cognitive, and affective experiences.

Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position and/or efforts of the office in general.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

2 or more years of experience in community-engaged scholarship, university-community partnership development and implementation, and community-engaged arts teaching.

Excellent communications skills are necessary.

Ability to work with a team.

Strong knowledge of the arts and arts education.
