Duties and Responsibilities Network Infrastructure: Oversees staff supporting network architecture including Firewalls, Routing and Switching, Wireless, VOIP and VPN. The mission of the network team is to provide daily management and support for the local and wide area network (LAN/WAN), Internet Access and optimization of these resources using standard network appliances. Servers: Oversees staff responsible for server hardware and storage platforms for application environments. This includes system administration, systems design/configuration, installation, and support of server environments utilized for application processing database serving. Requires an ability to understand complex computing concepts as team members are trained on multiple operating systems including Microsoft, HP-Unix Linux Sun and other applications managed in a virtual server, SAN, and switching environment. This also includes oversight of the domain, DNS, and DHCP environment.Information Security: Directs the management of all computing resources staff responsible for ensuring the integrity and appropriate confidentially of all university systems and networks. Mitigate the threat of unauthorized access by hackers through the monitoring and configuration of intrusion protection/intrusion prevention systems working with appropriate staff. Monitors and supports enforcement of the University's appropriate Use Policy. Director should have strong project management, technical, and communication skills. This includes working effectively and collaboratively with highly trained technical staff, vendors, university management, and key faculty/staff across campus. Work may involve vendor contract negotiations, planning, and strategy development.

Minimum Required Education Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management & Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Type and Amount of Experience Needed Four (4) to six (6) years of technical leadership experience overseeing server/network architecture within a complex user community.Management: Expert proficiency levels in planning, organizing, directing and controlling where these functions are crucial to organizational success. Strong skills in strategic planning, project management, time management, facilitation, negotiation, budges, organizational finance, and public speaking. Expert level skills in human performance technology with the ability to champion best practices in all functional areas. Demonstrated capability to serve as a positive role model. Ability to set clear expectations and hold management team accountable for effectively coaching, mentoring, and motivating staff. Experience in monitoring and maintaining proactive approach to staff morale and fairness issues. Current, solid knowledge of employment laws, regulations, policies and procedures sufficient to carry out duties. Work frequently calls for conceptualization and creativity. Technical: Awareness of a broad spectrum of IT issues and trends affecting entire enterprise, with particular emphasis on area of specialty. Ability to ensure appropriate IT skills are developed and maintained at all levels through areas of responsibility. Capability to ensure close partnerships are built and maintained between managers and IT senior staff to develop and direct the operational aspects of functional areas and build methods to regularly and effectively tap their expertise for strategic planning and direction. Decision Making/Problem Solving: Experience in participating in formulating broad organization policy and setting organizational strategic direction. Demonstrated ability to make decisions that deal with highly complex issues requiring research and analysis, and have significant impact on overall organizational outcomes. Demonstrated ability to identify, resolve and appropriately escalate concerns in areas of responsibility or organizationally. Communication & Interaction: Ability to serve as a liaison between executive and management/staff. Requires high level and advanced skill in communication in significant and complex situations. Requires highly effective skills in working with others who are significant to the success of the organization. Skill in leading meetings and working where there are few unstructured contacts. Ability to garner respect from staff and management, get ideas and recommendations accepted, and when necessary, be firm yet empathetic. Most contacts require a high degree of diplomacy and judgment in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at varying levels to achieve results. Contacts include negotiations, strategy development, legal preparation and timing. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision and mission, and ensure that it is consistently and effectively integrated into the all aspects of department. Demonstrates the capacity to uphold high standards of personal and professional integrity. Models core ideology and integrates it into daily activities of the group. Can lead by example and hold self and others accountable. Demonstrates sound leadership principles and continually seeks out and implements best practices.

Preferred Qualifications Master's degree preferred.
