RESEARCH SPECIALIST B/C
Duties: This position will be conducting research in the Pack laboratory using cell culture, mouse and zebrafish models. In the zebrafish system, this involves assisting with molecular cloning and phenotypic analyses of zebrafish mutants including histological analyses, in situ hybridization, western blot analyses, transcriptional profiling and image analyses. Other studies include embryological analyses (microinjection and transplantation studies); maintenance of transgenic lines; maintenance of mutant lines. For cell culture models, this will involve gene expression studies, loss and gain of function studies using siRNA and shRNA or overexpression, fluorescence microscopy and related molecular studies. Responsibilities also include lab management, including lab organization, digital data storage, lab safety and maintenance of animal protocols.
In addition to above, the Research Specialist C will be expected to work independently, performing advanced microscopy techniques; generation of organoids and cell lines and in vivo experimentation (effects of drug and toxin administration); bioinformatics analyses of transcriptional profiling data; and generation of trangenic and mutant lines using CRISPR-Cas9 methods.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: Research Specialist B: A Bachelor's Degree and 1 year to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A BA/BS in Biology is preferred.
Research Specialist C: A bachelor's degree and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A PhD in biology is preferred with experience in experimental biology.
Experience with genetic analyses and live animal experimental studies in model organisms is highly preferred, preferably mouse or zebrafish, but drosophila or c. elegans is acceptable. Cell culture experience including shRNA methodology is also preferred.
