Job description

Duties: Reporting to the Managing Director, the Associate Director will be responsible for creating a strategy and overseeing the implementation of all communication and marketing for the Center. Additionally, this person will have full operational, administrative and financial responsibilities for the Center.

Currently the Baker Center has one advisory board and one directors' council. The Center is at the stage where current board members are aging and retiring. Therefore, the Center is redefining its strategy and value proposition to attract new members of the board and additionally to create a new board presence on the West Coast and Asia.

The communications and marketing strategy will require this individual to reach a broad group of influential stakeholders, including board members, directors council members, other c-suite level individuals who are prospective board or directors council members, alumni, students, and the broader retail industry. This person will plan, develop and publicize events, and expand outreach efforts with advisory board companies and other retailers. S/he will work closely with the Managing Director to develop and execute a marketing plan, to write/develop/produce marketing materials, to create a quarterly newsletter, to update and maintain the Center's website, and to plan and oversee the 20+ events (board meetings, conferences, Baker Leadership Lecture Series, and various student and alumni events) that the Center hosts annually. This role works with alumni at every level in organizations to engage them with the Center and with current students. S/he will also be responsible for the Center's finances, HR functions and day-to-day activities.

This position has a dual reporting relationship and reports directly both to the Center's Managing Director and the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration. Occasional evening work and travel is required.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 3 years to 5 years of retail experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to multi-task is essential as well as the ability to interface with people of all levels and types of organizations effectively. Strong communication skills a must. Must have analytic abilities, including facility with Excel. Must be highly organized and focused, able to set priorities and meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail. Able and willing to be responsible and accountable for a wide breadth of different types of tasks concurrently. Some work in the evenings and some travel may be required.
