ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, LAB OPERATIONS & PROCUREMENT
Duties: The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the 'go-to' organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
We are currently looking for an Associate Director, Lab Operations & Procurement to ensure that GTP's laboratories and facilities are fully equipped and maintained to support our growing research operations.
As the Associate Director, Lab Operations & Procurement, you will ensure that all scientific equipment remains accessible and in operable condition; manage installations, repairs, calibrations, certifications, validations, decontaminations when needed. You will develop relationships with supply vendors and effectively negotiate pricing for supplies, service contracts, and equipment. Working with the internal finance team, you will streamline the purchasing procedure, placing orders for supplies and equipment, and accurately allocate expenses to appropriate accounts. You will manage receiving/distributing of supplies, oversee the stockroom, and improve upon current inventory methods, implementing an electronic inventory management system; Manage asset/equipment database of over 500 items. You will participate in drafting and updating equipment SOP's for GLP equipment, provide direct supervision for Lab Services technicians, and provide an on-call emergency response for equipment on a rotational basis.
Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of direct laboratory experience, including experience in technical laboratory management(preferably in the biological sciences).
* 2+ years of experience with ordering scientific supplies and equipment and managing supply inventories.
* Experience with managing equipment service contracts.
* Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
* Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
* Customer service oriented with the ability to deal with multiple constituencies (faculty, technicians, vendors, University departments, etc.).
* Must thrive in a team environment.
Knowledge of University of Pennsylvania policies and processes; knowledge of GLP and GMP regulations with respect to equipment; persuasive negotiation skills; advanced MS Excel and/or databasing knowledge; familiarity with formal inventory systems; basic understanding of laboratory safety practices.
