The Director of Design and Learning Innovations creates, evaluates and facilitates customized content and educational experiences for UCLA Anderson Executive Education clients. This position encompasses four key areas of responsibility: program design, digital learning, faculty engagement and learning elements.

The Director serves as an expert in andragogy and contributes to an environment of innovation, collaboration, and overall educational excellence, positioning EE as a leader in the Executive Education space. S/he evaluates customer requirements and assesses, designs, develops, and evaluates innovative and customized learning solutions to meet their needs, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, faculty, UCLA, Anderson and EE staff, and external suppliers.

Researching, building and implementing digital learning tools is a critical area of focus for the Director of Design and Learning Innovations as EE seeks to enhance its blended learning offerings. This position will be responsible for aligning digital learning efforts with EE strategy, and managing a team of programmers, instructional designers, and internal UCLA and UCLA Anderson stakeholders to successfully launch new initiatives.

The Director of Design and Learning Innovations is EE's key implementation specialist and Chief Creativity Officer as it pertains to innovative learning technologies, and curriculum design. S/he must envision, design, deploy and operationalize complex and fresh leadership and organizational development solutions that include classroom, virtual and experiential learning.

As supervisor to the Associate Director of Design & Learning Innovations and Assessment and Coaching Talent Manager, the Director must be well-versed in Individual and Team Executive Coaching, Personality Assessments, and Learning Journals and able to direct and manage this work. While there is some overlap between the two positions, the focus of the Director of Design is the creation and operationalization of curriculum innovations

  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, needs analysis, educational technology, distance learning, with solid understanding of andragogy, and trends in innovative instruction trends and faculty development in Executive Education. Best practice experience of instructional design principles, electronic learning, coaching, assessments, course materials, and adult learning. 
  • Ability to lead the design process for blended learning offerings with clients -from idea generation, to program development to program measurement -and effectively manage various stakeholders in the process. Ability to future-think and envision design, implement and operationalize creative program design elements to ensure UCLA's reputation as an EE provider of excellence.
  • Thorough knowledge of developing and delivering training programs, with demonstrated experience facilitating training and educational sessions for adults.  
  • Demonstrated innovative outcomes in evaluating and implementing educational instructional technologies. Expert knowledge of current and emerging technologies which can be applied to instructional and academic activities including knowledge of streaming audio and video, podcasting, mobile applications, social media and other Web 2.0 tools. Ability to design, implement and facilitate experiential and virtual learning activities.
  • Proven competence in instructional design that showcases understanding of adult learning theory with ability to creatively design, deploy and operationalize complex, innovative leadership development and organizational development solutions that include classroom and experiential learning. Experience with interactive teaching methods, developing teaching materials and designing learning activities. Enthusiasm for researching and experimenting with emerging classroom technologies and comfort using digital tools for instruction and communication.
  • Expertise in Executive Coaching, including various coaching models and theories, including emotional intelligence, leadership development, and how individual development impacts organizational impact, culture, politics, systems, power, and influence. Coaching Certification preferred. Birkman Method and, Korn Ferry360 Certification required. Golden Profiler, MBTI, Hogan, and other assessments preferred.
  • Supervisory experience and skill in leading teams. Skill in organizing work flow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, training, evaluating subordinate effectiveness and administering necessary discipline.
  • Master's degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Instructional Systems Design or other relevant field and five or more years' experience working in the field of executive development. Professional and demonstrated curriculum development and instructional design experience in executive development.
