Position Summary: The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief of UNC Children's Hospital. The Division of Pediatric Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 4 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for injured and critically ill pediatric patients. Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated excellence in all three traditional academic missions of clinical practice, education, and research, as evidenced by experience, outcomes, and references. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, promote teamwork and learning, and lead by example. The applicant must be Board Certified in General and Pediatric Surgery. Faculty members within the Division of Pediatric Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three mission of the department and school of medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students and residents. Additionally, Peds Surgery faculty participate in outreach to our many rural referring hospitals. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division. The incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair of Surgery to promote a collegial work environment that enhances clinical growth and academic development while advancing research activities consistent with the growth of clinical programs. The Chief will also work closely with the Chair of Pediatrics, and other surgical departments in the role as Surgeon-in-Chief of UNC Children's Hospital. The selected candidate will be a strategic leader who will promote a strong culture of institutional stewardship throughout UNC Health systems, including a strong commitment to effective business operations. Education Requirements: Prospective candidates must be Board Certified in General Surgery with Pediatric certification.
Qualification and Experience: Chosen candidates must either have a current North Carolina Medical License or be eligible for application.
