General Statement of Job


To provide academic advising and related support to new students through the admission and initial career pathway process at Austin Community College (ACC) striving to remove obstacles in their career path.



Position Information
Location Multiple Locations Hours 40 hours/week as assigned; Generally Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, with some possible evenings/weekends. Salary Specialist 6/118 ($31,394.00 - $44,848.00) FLSA Status Exempt Reports To Supervisor, Enrollment Advising Criminal Background Check Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC's College Police department.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides academic advising to students by reviewing areas of study, explaining career options along with various degree plans, college readiness, assessment and financial aid information, steps to enroll, and career and transfer options to consider.
  • Promotes registration and enrollment at ACC.
  • Assists prospective and new students in registering and enrolling in Austin Community College (ACC) by discussing benefits of attending the college and working with them in overcoming enrollment obstacles.
  • Provides support to new students with submission of transcripts, completing entry assessments including interpreting test scores and other information for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and related student plans, and complying with other requirements such as the meningitis vaccination.
  • Identifies special populations such as students with disabilities or dual credit/ veterans/ foster care students and provides referrals to appropriate intervention resources, ACC programs, and support staff upon enrollment.
  • Conducts communication campaigns with outbound calls, emails, or social media to prospective students who have expressed an interest in attending ACC.
  • Provides on-going quality communication, effective customer service, and advising support to prospective and enrolling students by using consistent, effective outreach and follow-up contacts including in-person advising sessions, phone calls, and digital communication; documents and tracks contact data into computer systems ensuring compliance with any regulatory requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with other student services and instructional departments to remain current on college information, class information, and to ensure student satisfaction.
  • Maintains and updates records and files and submits recruiting reports using Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) Recruit and other software systems as appropriate.
  • May staff College Destination Centers (CDC) when direct student support is necessary for enrollment campaigns or perform other enrollment, recruiting duties when necessary.

    • Understanding testing techniques and test results.
    • Principles of research, public relations, publicity, and especially marketing to new students.

    Required Work Experience

    • Two years related work experience.




    Preferred Work Experience

    • Experience with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) recruiting systems or other contact management systems.




    Required Education

    • Bachelor's degree.




    Special Requirements

    Licenses/Certifications; Other

    • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.




    Physical Requirements

    • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
    • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
    • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

    ACC Benefits Overview

    Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

    ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by Federal law.
