I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Title IX Investigator is responsible for serving as a member of a team that provides administrative, educational, and intellectual leadership to support the University's Title IX compliance requirements. The Title IX Investigator under the supervision of the Title IX Coordinator, will conduct investigations of all allegations or violations of GW's Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Policy and The Threats and Acts of Violence Policy and Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, including allegations pertaining to sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking.

The Title IX Investigator is a key partner in ensuring GW's compliance with federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws related to sexual misconduct. The Title IX Investigator requires sound judgment in applying prevailing legal principles and standards to solve complex problems with decisive action and an ability to sensitively handle complaint intake from various members of the GW community in order to determine whether to investigate or make an appropriate referral.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

-Conducts investigations of complaints of sexual harassment and sexual violence against students, faculty and staff.

-Interviews complainants, respondents, witnesses.

-Manages, reviews, and analyzes relevant documentation, physical evidence, or statistical information.

-Travels to the various GW campus sites and surrounding areas to conduct interviews as necessary.

-Develops an investigative plan for complaints and incidents reports.

-Contacts all involved parties and provide them with information about the investigative process.

-Works with the appropriate University offices during the course of the investigations.

-Maintains accurate and thorough case files and reports.

-Maintains an unbiased approach and appropriate level of confidentiality throughout the process.

-Develops and prepares comprehensive reports based on facts revealed in investigations.

-Analyze applicable laws and GW policies, factual background, summaries of allegations and witness interviews, and recommendations.

-Provides input and/or testimony as needed in hearings or other disciplinary proceedings that stem from the investigations.

-Assists the Title IX Coordinator and the Title IX Response Coordinator with training programs for faculty, staff, and students on specific topics related to sexual assault prevention and response.

-Assists with intake consultation for complaint allegations.

-Performs other work duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning tasks that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

JD preferred.

Five years of relevant professional experience investigating and resolving allegations and violations of sexual harassment and sexual violence complaints required. Other comparable experience may serve as a substitute for investigatory experience (i.e., litigation experience, HR investigatory experience).

Demonstrated expertise in applying federal, state, and local laws.

Complaint processing experience in higher education.

Experience conducting criminal sexual assault, Title IX investigations or other administrative investigations.

Familiarity with OCR Title IX guidance and best practices.

An understanding of the civil rights investigation model under Title IX.

Knowledge of complexities surrounding trauma and sexual misconduct.

Strong interpersonal, investigatory, analytical, writing, and verbal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively and collegially.

Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential topics with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.

Ability to interface with various levels of management to maintain effective and open communication.

Ability to work independently.

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a busy caseload, and plan one's work to meet critical deadlines.

Experience using a case tracking/management database or system.

Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service.

Demonstrated record of strong professional accountability.

Ability to facilitate training sessions for senior management.

Ability to organize and clearly present information to varied audiences.

Strong attention to detail.

Practices continuous learning and professional development in Title IX practices.
