Associate/Full Professor and Director of Financial Mathematics

Primary Function of Organization Unit: In the Department of Mathematics at NC State University, a long tradition of excellent teaching and a supportive environment for students are paired with cutting-edge research across a broad spectrum of mathematics and its applications. Many members of the department participate in interdisciplinary programs and research groups on campus and in the broader Research Triangle community. Research strengths of the Department include the core mathematical areas of algebra, topology, and geometry, especially their connections to combinatorics, symbolic computation, and mathematical physics; core areas of applied mathematics, including matrix analysis, numerical analysis, scientific computation, probability, optimal control, ordinary, partial, and stochastic differential equations, and dynamical systems; and applications of mathematics to biology, finance, and industrial problems. Annual research funding exceeds $3 million, and supports numerous research assistantships for undergraduate and graduate students. Essential Job Duties: The Director of the Graduate Program for Financial Mathematics must demonstrate a strong record of mentoring students and postdocs as well as a commitment to effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will be expected to have an internationally recognized program of recognized research, and the ability to attract external funding. This position will work with partnering departments, students, external constituents and faculty to benefit the Masters of Financial Mathematics program while participating in interdisciplinary programs and research groups on campus and in the broader Research Triangle community.
Minimum Education/Experience: PhD in Mathematical Sciences, or a related field.
Department Required Skills: Commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ability to attract external funding. Strong record of mentoring students and postdocs.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Internationally recognized research program Experience in Financial Mathematics Mentoring students and postdoctoral positions Supervisory experience
