The University of Connecticut, School of Engineering seeks to hire a Computer Technical Support Consultant 2 (UCP 7) for the Engineering Computer Services (ECS) unit. The IT specialist services the needs of a diverse and highly productive user base of faculty, staff, and students. It is a solution orientated service position within a fast paced, small team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to end users, and for managing the IT systems that provision and manage their enterprise desktops and high performance workstations. This role also involves managing supporting application servers, meeting IT security standards, and managing large volumes of data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field, scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to work cooperatively and constructively with students, faculty, and staff, building and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Must be able to work in an IT environment which reflects a variety of different IT standards.
  • Experience providing in-person high quality technical support to a diverse audience.
  • Experience managing client systems using a centralized management tool such as Microsoft Configuration Manager.
  • Experience managing Windows server operating systems, such as Windows Server 2016, 2013, etc.
  • Experience implementing IT security standards on enterprise servers and clients using security tools such as Nessus, IdentityFinder, Bitlocker, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing clear written and verbal communication to a non-technical diverse audience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience managing server systems in a virtualized environment.
  • Experience managing database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, etc.
  • Experience managing the lifecycle of user generated data.
  • Experience with scripting.
  • Experience with client & server integration.
  • Experience with multiple operating system platforms.
