Position Summary:

This is a temporary position. The Admissions Manager is often the first contact for the department with the resident, families, representatives, interdisciplinary team members, and hospital/skilled nursing facility discharge planners. This position requires the individual to ascertain the emergent nature of inquiries to assure appropriate communication to the clinical staff in a timely manner. The Admissions Manager must be fully aware of the applicable confidentiality laws and regulations in the dissemination of protected health information. The Admissions Manager position would require the individual to function autonomously in the maintenance of the efficient workflow, office management, and the handling of the department correspondence.

The position will require an efficient and effective communicator who is highly organized, insightful, and able to multitask. It is necessary in the position to be able to autonomously prioritize tasks using sound judgment on a daily basis and be able to concentrate on tasks in an active environment.

Duties of an Admissions Manager may include the following but are not limited to:

  • All aspects of office management
  • Ongoing communication with Admissions staff including the Medicaid Coordinator
  • Scheduling and conducting tours of the facility
  • Answering a high volume of phone calls
  • Monitoring/purchasing office supplies
  • Monitoring and maintaining waiting lists
  • Maintaining MS Excel spreadsheets
  • Logging and dispositioning of PRI's
  • Distributing completed admissions paperwork to interdisciplinary team members, both written and computerized
  • Maintaining resident files and their entry into the computer database
  • Daily follow up communication, both written and computerized, with potential applicants
Working Conditions: Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in healthcare related field and minimum five (5) years healthcare experience. Working experience in a Nursing Home or Long Term Care Facility Admissions Department. Working experience, knowledge and understanding of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and how it directly relates to the Admissions Department and other interdisciplinary teams. Experience with EMAR and understanding of all documentation required for the annual Department of Health and Veterans Administration survey. Special Notes: The Long Island State Veterans Home is a tobacco-free environment.
