The position of Career Advisor I is responsible for providing individual career advising and developing programming to support undergraduate student career development needs. Primary career development topics will include career assessment, career exploration, internship and job search strategies, and career decision-making. The Career Advisor I will serve as a career specialist across multiple academic majors in order to assist undergraduate students in preparing to compete for internships, professional employment, and admission into graduate school. The Career Advisor I will be responsible for tracking, assessing, and evaluating efforts supporting undergraduate student career development, and connectivity within the academic units. The Career Advisor I will provide accurate data collection for undergraduate student engagement in experiential learning and employment opportunities, e.g., internships, shadowing, co-ops, research, new jobs, and volunteer experiences. The Career Advisor I will create outcome reports and materials to reflect efforts, connections, and engagement.

Physical Requirements

Sitting and/or standing at workstation for extended periods; may require lifting and/or carrying light-weight objects; and walking to/from meetings/events.


Monday-Friday; 8:00 am-5:00 pm; and occasional evenings and weekends.


Extremely well-organized with excellent follow-through ability. Effectively manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
Experience in counseling, advising or teaching of students/adults on their career/professional development.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to interface effectively with employers, students, alumni, faculty and university administrators. Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects, both independently and in a team.
Proficient in the use of web-based software. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication, program planning, presentation, and computer skills.
Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, and staff. Ability to work with a diverse population of team members and constituents. Willingness to work collaboratively with academic units.
Service-oriented approach. Careful attention to detail.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience

Prefer a Master's degree in counseling, student personnel, human resources, higher education, communication, business administration, or related field; Prefer a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with college students and in-depth knowledge of the career needs of first and second-year students; Experience in college/university career services and/or in sourcing college talent for an employer (a minimum three years of experience is strongly desired).
