Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Director is responsible for meeting the academic support needs of all Bay Path University students, undergraduate and graduate, on-ground and online, on the main campus and at two other locations.  The Director specifically oversees the design, development, and implementation of the unified support services to assist students throughout their tenure at Bay Path.  The Director works closely with faculty, students and staff to ensure synchronicity between the Center's services and the needs of the students.  The Director supervises a group of coaches and student learning assistants who provide tutoring, mentoring, and supplemental instruction.  The Director counsels students in academic difficulty, manages placement testing of incoming students, develops academic success plans and monitors progress for students on probation, and oversees the specific needs of students with disabilities.  The Director plans and supervises all activities of the Bashevkin Center for Academic Excellence and administers an annual budget to meet departmental needs, goals, and objectives. The Director is responsible for supervising the Coordinator of Disability Support Services. The Director holds faculty rank according to background and credentials and teaches a minimum of two courses per year. The Director must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evening and Saturday hours.    

Essential Duties:

  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates a staff of federal and institutional work-study students, peer tutors, academic coaches, professional tutors, student learning assistants, and other individuals hired to provide academic support services in a confidential manner.
  • Coordinates and schedules academic and student support services.
  • Implements and oversees pre-matriculation assessment placement testing in collaboration with the Coordinator of the Writing Program, the Chair of the Department of Mathematics, the Director of Advising and Retention and other faculty members.
  • Counsels and monitors students on academic probation and new students with particular learning needs (e.g. ESL), develops academic success plans to support students' academic progress.
  • Supervises the A.L.L.I. (summer transition program) including student recruitment, curriculum development, managing budget, and subsequent academic support programming for A.L.L.I. students.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Advising and Retention.
  • Participates in recruitment/admissions activities and meets with prospective students and families.
  • Refers students to other University services, as appropriate.
  • Meets with faculty to determine academic support needs, identify tutors, and review services in place.
  • Works with librarians to promote and reinforce information literacy skills.
  • Research current methodology and best practices in academic support services.
  • Manage budget.
  • Oversee curricular development related to the Academic Support Center.
  • Conduct training workshops for students in study skills or topics related to support services.
  • Continually monitors and proactively responds to student learning need trends and issues.
  • Develops and updates student academic success resources and virtual library.
  • Develops programs to support students' academic achievement.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty and staff on student academic achievement issues and support.
  • Stays current with and assures compliance with all federal and state laws and guidelines with regard to disabilities.
  • Educates campus community about disabilities. 


  • Graduate degree in counseling, student personnel, special education, psychology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of best practices in education theories and methods including retention and assessment.
  • Experience working with first generation and adult female and male students.
  • Administrative experience and proficiency with course management systems and technology.
  • Experience with student outreach and supplemental instruction and tutors.
  • Experience with the American with Disabilities Act in a college/university setting.
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with faculty, staff and students.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software; the use of technology to communicate with students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
