Job Description Summary

Implements the College-wide communications plan for the designated campus/business area to ensure compliance with College-wide goals and strategic plan.

Job Responsibilities


Implements the College-wide communications plan for the designated campus/ business area campus to ensure compliance with College-wide goals and strategic plan

Develops working relationships with key departments and personnel to promote the College, its programs and services including development of strategic marketing plans to strengthen the assigned campus/business area's initiatives

Manages project development from beginning to end

Serves as a marketing communications consultant, provides counsel to College constituents on how to best achieve marketing goals

Develops project briefs and assists Integrated Communications department in meeting its objectives in developing and writing communications, project plans and collateral

Actively seeks out and writes stories (success, feature, analytical, community-focused, etc.), that will contribute to collateral of the College, such as College magazine, Website, e-newsletters, brochures, etc.

Collects and analyzes information about newsworthy subjects to write stories for publication; receives assignments or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop and pitch story ideas; gathers and verifies factual information; and organizes materials and writes stories according to AP Style standards and College Style guide

Assists with College-wide media relations strategies, which includes writing news releases

Serves as the liaison between Integrated
Communications department and the Campus President/applicable business area leaders with respect to confidential and sensitive College information and issues

Advises Campus President/applicable business area leaders on appropriate Communications policies, procedures and marketing trends

Assists or manages College-wide projects and initiatives (e.g. Convocation, Commencement, etc.).

Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates full- and/or part-time student assistants and interns, as needed

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in a related field
o Significant related experience may substitute for education

Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in marketing and communications including the development of publications

Demonstrated experience in journalism or public relations

Demonstrated accomplishments in publications, production and marketing

Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team

Demonstrated experience requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations


Possess working knowledge of graphic design, photography and advertising concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Possess knowledge of digital/social media marketing

Possess knowledge of AP Style Guide

Ability to develop and implement creative strategic integrated communications plan

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possess excellent proofreading and editing skills

Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively

Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Demonstrated intermediate project management skills

Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications


Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, journalism, marketing or public relations

Minimum of five years of communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations project management experience


Demonstrated education, training, and/or professional certification in digital media

Possess knowledge of content management systems

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of operation, Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5pm. Hours will vary based on business unit needs.

Special Note

These are marketing project manager/writer positions.
One position mainly supports the Westshore Campus, and will be located on the campus in Westlake.
One position mainly supports the Center for Creative Arts, which includes Performing Arts and Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland, and will be located in the Jerry Sue Thornton Center in Cleveland.
