Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Academic Advisor will be to advise students for the General Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies degree programs. This position will also assist with curriculum instruction and other Integrative Studies activities

Duties & Responsibilities:

In Integrative Studies, Academic Advisors are responsible for providing curriculum instruction and advising General and Interdisciplinary Studies majors and perspective students in areas concerning degree programs, course planning and selections, and career and educational goals.

The individual will assist with the admission, progression, and graduation of students in the department.

In addition, Academic Advisors will teach a minimum of two courses per semester. The individual will also assist with recruiting, retention, and upholding the mission of the department. The individual will report to the Program Director of the Integrative Studies Department.

Perform other duties as assigned.


The ideal candidate must exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; adhere to strict ethical standards; be student-focused in philosophy by demonstrating an ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population; manage stress and remain flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment; be knowledgeable regarding the practice of advising and instruction; be able to effectively use computer-based advising and academic systems as well as other computer programs, including Word and Excel. Some travel and flexible hours required.

General Days/Hours:

Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00pm. There may (rarely) be a need to assist with evening/Saturday events.


Participate in professional staff development, workshops, programs, and administrative functions; attends departmental meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Master’s in English, Business, College Student Personnel Services, or a related field is preferred.

This position will be available through the 2017-2018 academic year ending on June 30.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree and one (1) year working with College Students.
