The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Zoological Pathology Program, a unit within the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, is seeking an Anatomic Pathologist at the clinical-track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The Zoological Pathology Program, housed at the Chicago Zoological Society's Brookfield Zoo, is a full-service diagnostic, teaching and research program that serves local zoological institutions as well as local, national and international non-profit and governmental wildlife agencies. The program has earned an international reputation for excellence in diagnostic service, education of residents and veterinary students, contribution to worldwide conservation efforts, and original scholarship. This position is a regular, full-time, twelve-month, clinical-track appointment and is available beginning on or about March 1, 2018. An earlier start date can be negotiated. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and ACVP board eligibility. Advanced research training, experience in diagnostic veterinary medicine and molecular techniques, ACVP board certification, as well as excellent communication/ interpersonal skills are preferred. Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in non-domestic animal pathology.
The successful candidate will function in the areas of diagnostic services, teaching and scholarly activity. Service duties will include necropsy examinations, surgical pathology, and pathology consultations with clinicians at allied institutions, referring veterinarians and consulting biologists. Teaching duties will include instruction of veterinary students, pathology residents and graduate students. Creative scholarly activity will depend on the candidate's interests and may range from creation and improvement of molecular diagnostic services to collaborative or independent research. Assignment of duties is expected to be 75% service, 15% teaching and 10% creative scholarly activity.
