Position Summary

The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) is conducting a search for TWO (2) positions:

  • A tenure-track Assistant Professor
  • A tenured Associate Professor.

UNCG is located in Greensboro, a city of 275,000 in a metropolitan area of 1.6 million people. The city has six colleges and universities and is an attractive community with rich historical traditions, a temperate climate, and a full and active cultural program. UNCG is one of the doctorate-granting institutions in the seventeen campus University of North Carolina system and has an enrollment of more than 19,000 students, including 3000 graduate students.

The UNCG Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations (ELC) offers programs and degrees in the intersecting areas of educational leadership and cultural studies. We are committed to the values of equity and social justice, democratic participation, caring, and educational quality and innovation in schools and throughout the public realm. With these values in mind, we seek to understand and change the theories, policies, and practices that are enacted in schools, communities, and other educational and cultural contexts. We endeavor to prepare exceptional school leaders who are intent on transforming education and critically engaged academics who seek to challenge the intellectual status quo. We offer on-campus programming as well as a range of alternative programs and courses, including web-based instruction and distance education.

The ELC Department seeks TWO individuals who participate energetically in collaborative, democratic leadership; evidence a commitment to teaching, scholarship, research, and community engagement; and actively engage in department, school, university, community, and national service activities. The individuals must be able to reflect and enhance the broad directions of the ELC Department.

Specifically, the individuals must be able to speak to both the educational leadership and the cultural foundations concerns of the Department and exhibit a commitment to educational equity, human dignity, and democratic values.

We are interested in attracting candidates who add to the diversity of the department in terms of race, gender, ethnicity, disability, culture, academic specialty, and method of inquiry. The successful applicants will teach primarily in the Educational Leadership programs, which include the Master in School Administration (MSA), Post Masters Certificate in School Administration (PMC), Specialist in Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.S.), and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.). They will also serve on and potentially chair a significant number of doctoral committees.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates must possess a doctorate in Educational Leadership, Policy, or a closely related area.
  • Candidates seeking the nine-month position as an associate professor must qualify for appointment at that rank.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include experience as a K-12 school or district administrator; expertise and scholarship related to school leadership and improvement; experience teaching educational leadership graduate students; experience chairing and/or serving on doctoral committees in educational leadership; experience working in collaboration with schools, school districts, and other educational agencies; and capability and/or willingness to teach online.
