Faculty - Assistant Professor - College Algebra Coordinator

Summary:
The Utah Valley University Department of Mathematics invites applicants to apply for an Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track, faculty position as instructor and course coordinator for college algebra. A principal role of this position is oversight of all aspects of the college algebra courses within the department, extending to concurrent enrollment, extended education, and the community. Specifically, the course coordinator maintains (and when necessary creates) a set of common resources for all instructors, and mentors new instructors, along with other duties. A working knowledge of, and ability to fully utilize Canvas, WebAssign, MyMathLab, and ALEKS are essential. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work well with teachers, administrators, and students is also essential.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited university with a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education (with a strong mathematics background). Demonstrated successful teaching at a the college or university level is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and methodology of subject matter and course content.
  • Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques for College Algebra.
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to supervise others, including students, and employees.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Ability to manage and motivate instructors.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and design courses.
  • Ability to use MyMathLab, WebAssign, ALEKS, and Canvas.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of students, faculty, administrators, and others effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or willingness to teach high-enrollment classes (100 - 400 students) and manage student teaching assistants.

Physical Requirements:
Physically be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time while teaching.
