Job Summary

This position assists in the coordination of all functions and services of the fitness and wellness programs and assists faculty instructors teaching in the facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with opening procedures of the facility
  • Leads various exercise practicums, tutors and assists students enrolled in all fitness and wellness credit courses
  • Coordinates with faculty members all exercise and facility practicum as requested by the instructors and the Director
  • Conducts fitness assessments on the students enrolled in the classes and employees registered in the fitness and wellness programs
  • Utilizes all fitness and wellness instruments and technology based equipment to conduct assessments
  • Designs and incorporates exercise strengthening routines
  • Maintains appropriate fitness and wellness daily program data entry in the computer labeling and filing as needed
  • Sets up exercise activities and exercise testing practicum
  • Assists the Director and Coordinator with promoting and providing orientations for departmental fitness and wellness programs on the Campus
  • Participates in campus, departmental and community health and career fairs
  • Coordinates the schedule for group exercise classes and may fill-in to teach some group exercise classes as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree or two years of college (60 credits) from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of effective work experience in a health promotion program or related field (gym, health clinic fitness, or wellness center)
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Maintain appropriate certifications as needed and requested by law: American Red Cross Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), or obtained within two (2) months of employment
  • Currently earning college credits in the area of Health and Wellness, Sports Medicine or related field
  • Ability to comply with HIPAA's strict guidelines and regulations; to include but not limited to, maintaining strict confidentiality with both medical record keeping and personal medical information
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise in all areas of fitness leadership instruction
  • Knowledge of basic level Microsoft Office applications and general knowledge of office procedures
  • Knowledge of Wellness Center department, policies and class offerings
  • Knowledge of or ability to become familiar with College organization and policies
  • Possess excellent telephone and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
  • Possess a personal commitment to a healthy lifestyle
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills (Verbal and Written)
  • Possess a positive customer service attitude to all program users
  • Knowledge of class schedules, pre and co-requisites, course sequencing, special requirements for admission to certain courses, basic information on class content and paperwork processing specific to the department
  • Ability to professionally interact and work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff, and other health educators
