The Senior Assistant Director for Diversity coordinates diversity outreach, recruitment, and yield initiatives for Undergraduate Admissions, with a focus on enrollment of students from historically disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. As a member of the outreach and recruitment team, develops and implements on- and off-campus programming and events, and cultivates relationships to facilitate the development of enrollment pipelines of academically talented, diverse students for Ohio University’s undergraduate programs. Reporting to the director of recruitment and outreach, this position assists in the development of recruitment strategy and coordinates with admissions advisors, assistant directors, and associate directors to provide subject matter expertise regarding recruitment efforts for diverse populations. Provides oversight for associated student organizations in Undergraduate Admissions. Serves as an operational liaison between Undergraduate Admissions and representatives from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office for Multicultural Student Access and Retention, and recruitment and retention specialists in academic units to ensure alignment of recruitment and admissions processes serving students from disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. Serves as an active member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team, managing a territory and participating in admission review processes.

(1) Diversity Outreach, Recruitment, and Yield: As a member of the recruitment and outreach leadership team, plan university recruitment and admission efforts directed toward diversity outreach, recruitment and yield efforts. Collaborate with colleagues and utilizes creative and innovative approaches to maximize effectiveness of limited resources to recruit and yield students from historically disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. Work with the recruitment and outreach leadership team while serving as a liaison with alumni, school districts and external multicultural constituency groups to help in recruitment and admission of multicultural students including but not limited to students from underrepresented, first generation, low income and LGBT backgrounds so that Ohio University can achieve an increasingly diverse student body.

(2) Relationship management and pipeline development: Cultivate, develop and nurture strong relationships with various on- and off-campus partners for diversity initiatives including Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), school counselors and other groups supporting diversity, recruitment and enrollment of students from disproportionately underrepresented backgrounds. Coordinate regularly with other recruitment and outreach team leaders to develop college access and pipeline initiatives for middle and high school students in conjunction with the Undergraduate Admissions outreach and recruitment teams, targeting urban and rural school districts as well as community- and faith-based organizations within OHIO’s primary and secondary recruiting markets.

(3) Recruitment and Admission: Serve as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team. Represent the University both on- and off-campus to a wide variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary school personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Counsel and advise constituents on a range of admission and enrollment processes. Maintain thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions, and advise constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO. Evaluate applications and supplemental materials for the purposes of making admission decisions. Conduct thorough, holistic, selective review of an applicant’s candidacy. Determine necessary documentation to support an admission decision and recommend appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. Plan and implement limited recruitment activities for an assigned territory or population, including programs and travel activities around Ohio and nationally. Other duties as assigned.
