Job Summary

The Chief Financial Strategist will provide comprehensive financial planning and analysis for the College by setting short and long term strategic financial goals that will improve the profitability and return on investment, and overall financial effectiveness of the College's initiatives. This position develops and delivers insightful analysis that will add value to, and improve the College's operations and processes. To achieve these goals, the VP Strategic Finance will actively and collaboratively work with MDC's senior leadership team as well as other pertinent areas of the College. This senior-level position specifically supports the strategic initiatives and cost management functions of the College. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works actively and collaboratively with the College's leaders on analyzing trends, best practices and objectives to lead the development of financial strategies that support the College's short and long-range plans for growth and expansion
  • Create and maintain financial models and plans that lead to the college's short and long-term financial strategy
  • Ensures that resources are aligned to support and enable growth initiatives and effectively drive cost efficiencies to deliver profit growth objectives
  • Provides long term strategic outlook for major Capital and operational initiatives
  • Analyzes performance on an ongoing basis and provides financial insights to the senior leadership team
  • Develops operational metrics and business tools for the College to identify, track and forecast primary drivers that impact results, based on key performance indicators (KPIs), profitability reviews, forecasts, and financial benchmarks
  • Communicates with Leadership about anticipated changes to revenues and spending, monitoring the impact on the College's financials
  • Stays current with legislation, legal regulations, and guidelines which may affect the College programs, functions and activities, and with state and federal reporting requirements
  • Conducts audits to the College's internal processes as needed, considering relevant and evolving business risks facing the College that impact the long term strategic outlook for the College
  • Recommends and participates in the development of College policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree and eight (8) years, including at least three (3) years of strategic financial planning and/or auditing
  • Understanding of top management, academic, and student affairs administrative practices and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in strategic financial planning, data analysis and reporting
  • Advanced understanding of higher education issues, of the current and emerging trends in financial reporting
  • Advanced understanding of the policies, standards, and practices in higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with strategic financial planning
  • Skill and ability to collect, analyze, verify, and manipulate financial data and make recommendations
  • Skill and ability to audit, analyze, verify, and make recommendations for improvement and/or correction where needed
  • Advance knowledge of financial planning, analysis and reporting
  • Ability to develop and interpret financial data/plans and manage resources
  • Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed in compliance with college standards and guidelines and to manage or impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff, and leaders
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the institution

Essential Position

  • This function/position has been designated as essential. This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
