Job Summary


The Department Chairperson provides academic leadership, supervision and strategic development for a comprehensive industrial engineering technology department that competes on a national level with a cutting edge curriculum that is responsive to current and future industry needs. This will be accomplished in unison with industry professional support and external business partnerships that satisfy the criteria required of today's leaders in the industry. The position serves as an integral member of the College and Campus administrative team and facilitates learning, quality teaching, internships, scholarships and services. The position provides support and advice in the collective bargaining process and ensures adherence to relevant areas of any collective bargaining agreement. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provides academic leadership for the industrial engineering technology department to include 1) the identification of emerging industry needs 2) the development and deployment of industry-appropriate curriculum and 3) the market and industry relevancy of the program offerings and faculty
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with the Deans of Faculty and Vice Provost of Academic Schools
  • Develops semester course schedules and faculty assignments
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates personnel
  • Establishes and evaluates departmental policies and procedures
  • Provides professional development opportunities for all employees in the department
  • Ensures the effective implementation of the faculty advancement processes and adheres to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Teaches at least one (1) course within the discipline per academic year
  • Implements student-centered instructional programs in the classrooms and labs
  • Supervises the development/review of curricula consistent with current research and modern technological platforms
  • Evaluates and assesses marketing communication strategies in relation to the industrial engineering technology program
  • Implements interdisciplinary integration within the program to ensure student success in the application and implication of industrial engineering technology in other fields
  • Ensures departmental compliance with SACS accreditation guidelines
  • Actively markets industrial engineering technology programs and establishes effective recruitment strategies to attract students
  • Continuously monitors and ensures success with increasing student enrollment, retention, graduation and job placement rates; as well as, resolving student issues
  • Provides program information and ensures the availability of advisement services for students
  • Facilitates the resolution of issues and problems that may arise between faculty, staff and students
  • Prepares and maintains departmental budgets, labs and equipment
  • Participates in the development and implementation of College policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Serves on Campus and College-wide committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's degree in Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of extensive experience in managing and directing corporate marketing programs
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of instructional systems development, training methods, techniques and formats
  • Knowledge of the requirements of accreditation agencies
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in budget preparation and management
  • Skill in computer applications
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
