Job Summary


The Assistant Dean of Faculty and Student Services is responsible for assisting the Office of the Dean with the proper functioning and smooth operation of day-to-day academic affairs and student services administration. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Functions as the department's liaison to MDConnect for the processing of personnel/ student records and campus financials transactions, in the absence of the Dean
  • Assists with development, revision, and implementation of curricula
  • Supports the Campus Academic and Student Support Council (CASSC)
  • Maintains disciplinary records and serves as advisor to campus committees
  • Meets with students for advisement purposes and resolves individual problems
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and provides analyses on enrollment, productivity, staffing and fiscal matters;
  • Plans and monitors the budget operations of the Academic Affairs and Student Services office, Campus staff and program development
  • Assists with the implementation of divisional policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Assists the Dean with faculty advancement procedures, accreditation compliance, approval of new courses and programs, dual enrollment, and special academic programming
  • Provides advice on the collective bargaining agreement and participates in the development and implementation of College policies, procedures, and pertinent regulations/guidelines
  • Coordinates and facilitates special projects and programming for the Academic Affairs and Student Services areas
  • Assumes responsibility of the Dean in his/her absence
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of experience in student service administration, teaching or other appropriate experience required or; Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Higher Education or appropriate field with six (6) years of experience in student service administration, teaching or other appropriate experience required
  • Knowledge and understanding of college organization, goals, and objectives, policies and procedures
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to analyze a variety of administrative problems, to make sound recommendations as to their solution and to prepare working procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, and the general public
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
