Job Summary


The Senior Director of Resource Development plans and executes a strategic and comprehensive fund development plan. The Director provides strategic direction, tactical implementation, management of the plan and provides oversight of grants development for the College by working with multiple campuses to determine annual and long-term objectives. This position supervises a team consisting of grant writers, researchers, compliance personnel, and support staff who are responsible for the identification, coordination and submission of grant proposals to external funding entities This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Develops and implements a coordinated strategy across all eight campuses to align funding opportunities and increase the capacity of the college to identify, seek and successfully deliver grant programs
  • Develops and supports a staffing plan that ensures that faculty and administrative staff are actively involved and take ownership of grant opportunities
  • Provides leadership with overall coordination of grant program administration
  • Works with College personnel to identify needs and appropriate external funding opportunities
  • Coordinates College-wide grant development activities, including training seminars and presentations on the preparation of concept papers, proposals, and budgets
  • Collaborates with the executive leadership of campuses and the College District to formulate annual grant development and submission plans that explicitly delineate priorities, production timelines, and deadlines
  • Evaluates the likelihood of success of a proposal by comparing the requirements of the funding agencies with the concept paper proposed by the college entity soliciting the funds
  • Assists project personnel in the resolution of special problems with agencies and issues involving grant refunding
  • Provides support to the monitoring of operational compliance of grant funded projects
  • Works with intergovernmental relations staff to seek advice and for assistance on the coordination's of grant proposal projects, special appropriations, and other initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Monitors awards and evaluations of grants from funding sources in collaboration with the College entities managing grants and the Colleges finance department
  • Submits a cumulative monthly report of grants submitted, awarded, or declined
  • Submits an annual report of the number of grant opportunities offered to qualified College entities and the subsequent action, including terminated proposals, and the award rates of each campus that submits grant proposals
  • Creates Board Items for submission to the College Board of Trustees
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution and six (6) years of experience in Grant Development, Grant Management, or related field or; Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and ten (10) years of experience in Grant Development, Grant Management, or related field
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in budget preparation and management
  • Skill in Microsoft Office and grant related computer applications
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Ability to identify strategies and support grant development to help achieve the College's mission and goals
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
