Job Summary


The Part Time Medical Assistant for the Wellness Center reports to the Chairperson, School of Health Sciences and Related Studies and may receive supervision from the Clinic's Medical Director and/or Dean of Health Sciences. Assists with a broad range of clinical and front office activities intended to enhance and increase efficiencies in the medical clinic. The part time medical assistant develops and implements tasks and activities related to the proper functioning of a department or program. Work includes front office communications with patients and staff, patient tracking, medical record development, coordination of provider schedules and clinic schedules, and the preparation and presentation of reports as may be required internally or for third-party payors.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Works with the Chairperson, Dean of Health Sciences and / or Medical Director of the clinic(s)
  • Prepares and maintains materials, maintains relevant databases of patient activity and funds generated
  • Assists with labs, to include blood draws and sample preparation, shipment and tracking
  • Assists with inventory control
  • Conducts vital sign readings and documentation
  • Provide patient with medical instruction/education
  • Provides clear and relevant medical record documentation
  • Prepares periodic budget reports and processes invoices and purchases as needed
  • Processes department documents as needed
  • Works with personnel within the department to identify equipment and facility needs
  • Adheres to all College policies and procedures
  • Provides general and often detailed information about clinical operations
  • Supports management in reporting data to other entities
  • Provides general information and responds to telephone inquiries from students, staff, faculty, and the community
  • Performs specialized tasks that provide services to students, staff, or faculty
  • Maintains professional administrative environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Associate's degree in related field and two (2) years of office and general administration or related experience in a healthcare setting; or thirty (30) college credits in related field and three (3) years of office and general administration or related experience in a healthcare setting
  • Medical Assisting license/certification from AMT or AAMA or enrolled in a Medical Assisting program at a regionally accredited institution
  • Possess a current CPR for Healthcare Provider license (cognitive and skills)
  • Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to the College Mission, organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of clinical operations and services and office management
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Possess excellent organization and communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Knowledge of electronic health records
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports and legal documents
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening, weekend and holiday assignments
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
