Job Summary


This position is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of curriculum for a Preschool classroom.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Assists in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities based on the individual needs of each child in the classroom
  • Assists, organizes and maintains the classroom environment, focusing on materials in each learning center that enhance the development of home language and English in each learning center
  • Assists with supervision of work study students in the classroom including Early Childhood students and other students in their field work
  • Assists in planning developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans
  • Assists with maintaining daily anecdotal records on children's growth and development
  • Assists in writing classroom observations and reports for children as required
  • Assists in the Development of Documentation Panels of activities in classroom and post outside
  • Assists with screening of all children as prescribed by the program and report any concerns to the Head Teacher
  • Participates in staff training and meetings as required by the program needs
  • Maintains confidentiality about children and their families
  • Ensures compliance with Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations, National Academy of Education for Young Children (NAEYC) standards and Quality Rating System (QRS)
  • Provides substitute assistance in the classroom as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Associates degree or sixty (60) equivalent college credits from a regionally accredited institution towards an Early Childhood Education (ECE), Infant/Toddler, Child Development, or related field and two (2) years of related experience working with young children in a pre-school setting; or FCCPC and/or CDA with fifteen (15) credits in ECE from a regionally accredited institution and six (6) years of related experience in a preschool setting
  • Must be able to provide a valid Florida Staff Credential, transcripts with successful completion of DCF forty-five (45) hour training and DCF clearance letter
  • Employee in this position is required to maintain the following in current and active status: forty-five (45) hours of Professional Development each fiscal year, valid First Aid in Early Care and Adult-Child-Infant CPR certificate and a valid Florida Staff Credential
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of High Scope curriculum
  • Knowledge of Child Observation Record and its implementation
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education programs and techniques
  • Knowledge of theories and philosophies in early childhood education
  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Strong competency skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Ability to communicate openly and clearly
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies
  • Ability to provide developmentally appropriate activities for children that encourage healthy growth
  • Ability to redirect behavior and implement classroom management techniques
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for each child's needs
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
