Job Summary


Serves as the Chief Officer of Facilities Management and Operations; provides vision, leadership, strategic planning and change management, procedure development, and oversight of the College-wide resources in facilities, grounds and physical plant operations. The Vice Provost for Facilities Management interfaces with senior leadership at the College and across eight campuses and centers in Miami-Dade County. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Actively engages as a member of the College-wide executive management team
  • Leads and manages the College-wide facilities management, physical plant and operations personnel in the areas of new construction, major renovations and on-going maintenance of existing facilities for the College's campuses and centers
  • Develops and administers the strategic planning and implementation for facilities and operations including the Capital Improvement Program
  • Plans, develops and implements Division budget within fiscal guidelines
  • Coordinates with the Senior Vice Provost and Chief Operating Officer, Vice-Provosts and Campus Presidents to develop the long range strategic plan for facilities development
  • Provides strategic oversight of College master planning regarding infrastructure requirements, building architectural design and engineering, and occupancy plans
  • Builds, influences and motivates the facilities and operations team to execute the area's strategic plan
  • Oversees external contractors and vendors providing services and/or equipment for facilities operations
  • Ensures College compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience at the management level in a complex facilities environment
  • Must be a licensed registered professional engineer, a licensed registered architect or a licensed general contractor
  • Previous experience in directing a major organization dealing with plant maintenance, plant operations and plant development is essential
  • Must have experience negotiating and working with architects, engineers, construction managers and vendors
  • Must have experience managing employees within a multiethnic/multicultural environment
  • Thorough knowledge of personnel management, maintenance operations and facilities planning, design and construction
  • Theoretical knowledge of public finance, procurement and operational business practices
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing safety codes and regulations.
  • Theoretical and working knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local laws governing the design and construction of public educational facilities in Florida, and a working knowledge of maintenance guidelines
  • Theoretical knowledge of public finance, procurement and operational business practices
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures regarding Facilities and Business Affairs
