Job Summary


The Part-Time Copy Editor is responsible for reviewing copy content for errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling and ensures readability and style are in agreement with editorial policy. The position suggests revisions, confirms sources and verifies facts with the objective to bolster the College campus's mission.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Collaborates with departments in developing stories and content to promote their programs
  • Reads content and provides corrections and rewrites, as needed
  • Verifies facts and dates, using standard reference sources
  • Evaluates submissions from departments for publishing
  • Allocates space for text, photos and illustrations for submitted material
  • Works with campus faculty and administrators in establishing successful marketing and communications strategies for their respective areas
  • Reviews and approves final versions submitted for publication
  • Provides regular updates and maintains social media outlets
  • Monitors the impact of social media by tracking metrics and analyzing the effectiveness of marketing campaigns for campus clientele
  • Performs other related duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of related work experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Possess general computer knowledge of PC and Mac platform
  • Ability to accurately and proficiently follow directions
  • Ability to listen carefully and provide quick decisive solutions
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to provide efficient time-management and organizational skills in a busy multi-tasking work environment
  • Superior knowledge of grammar, style, collegiate terminology
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
