Position Summary:

The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for the work activities in one or more of the following skilled trades; HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, and Mechanical. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Skilled Tradesman builds and/or repairs wooden structures or their structured parts, installs and replaces electrical wiring and fixtures, and assembles, installs and repairs air, gas and water systems and related parts and equipment.

In addition, the position prepares and paints interior and exterior surfaces, and provides a timely response to all Service and preventative maintenance work request as assigned, quality workmanship to all Service and preventative maintenance work request as assigned, proper notification and security for entering or exiting, occupied residence, quality service to all customers of the Residence Life Department, timely responses to all nighttime after hours and weekend duty calls, and quality service to all nighttime after hours and weekend duty calls.

Properly prioritize all service and preventative maintenance work request assigned, and complete and turn in all work orders and documentation from all nighttime, after hours and weekend duty calls in a timely manner.

Preform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades, accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades, and laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades.

Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades, read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings, understand verbal and written instructions, and maintain inventory on needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades.

General Days/Hours:

Monday-Friday
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
After-hours rotation preformed when emergency maintenance calls are placed after 5:00 p.m.

Other:

This position is considered Essential Personnel in Residence Life and Candidate must possess a valid Drivers License.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of required education or training along with the required license or certification in the following skilled trades: Journeyman Electrician according to ACA 17-28-304, Journeyman Plumber according to ACA 17-38-301, and HVAC Mechanics according to ACA 17-33-301.

Occupying the position of a carpenter or painter requires the formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma, plus five (5) years of experience in the chosen field.

Other job related Education and/or Experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval or the qualifications review committee.
