DCI Development-General Gifts
As a member of Duke Cancer Institute Development leadership team, the Director of DCI Programs, will be responsible for the strategic development, implementation, success and evaluation of special gifts, community engagement fundraising programs, development communications and annual giving. This position provides direction and sets strategy for community partners, signature events, and communications. The director will contribute to and support the overarching strategy and direction of DCI by overseeing the development of strategic messaging that enables and enhances all development efforts promoting DCI. The director develops key relationships with targeted audiences, including but not limited to donors, friends, corporate sponsors, physicians, and volunteers. The director will manage two exempt-level staff members, reports to the Senior Executive Director of Development for DCI Development, works collaboratively with colleagues in Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs, and works collegially throughout the Duke University community to maximize financial support of Duke Cancer Institute.
Provides strategic philanthropic direction on annual signature events as well as donor outreach events. The Director of DCI Development Programs will also identify opportunities for novel signature event(s) and sponsorships. The director will provide strategic advice on community partnerships and programs to increase philanthropy and community support and partnership. This individual will foster partnerships with 3rd party fundraising events with the intent to position Duke Cancer Institute as a premier community philanthropic partner. Manage DCI Annual Giving and related messaging in collaboration with DHDAA Central Annual Giving, DHDAA Marketing and Communications, and DCI Communications. Create a robust pipeline of annual donors to provide a steady flow of prospects, donors and volunteers to higher levels of giving.
Management and Other Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Senior Executive Director, determine program fundraising goals and expectations, align and manage staff resources accordingly. Contributes to the overarching strategy for the direction of the office and the development of a major gifts/principal gifts culture. Stands in for Sr. Executive Director in meetings as appropriate. Serves as point of contact for inquiries and solutions in absence of the director. Provide oversight and ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of all DCI Development day-to-day programmatic operations. Work with Director of DCI Annual Giving to fully develop the scope and strategic plan for Community Engagement. Work with Director of Community Engagement to fully develop the scope and strategic plan for Community Engagement. Contribute to decisions relating to operations and budget prioritization. Foster a team focus. Stewardship Partner with DCI Development staff to steward donors through specialized gift acknowledgements, gift clubs and incentives, annual donor wall updates, etc. Coordinate cultivation/stewardship activities in collaboration with DHDAA Donor Relations. Develop recognition opportunities for DCI Development and other donor recognition mechanisms appropriate for size of gift. Manage appropriate approvals with DHDAA Donor Relations. Work closely with major gift officers to develop stewardship plans for all donors of $50,000 and above, and coordinate with DHDAA Donor Relations. Serve as liaison to Duke Health Donor Relations team.
Assist the Senior Executive Director of DCI Development and staff the DCI Board of Advisors, including developing meeting content, managing committee and communications strategy for members. Oversee coordination of logistics with Duke Health Special Events team for two annual meetings. Work with DCI Sr. Executive Director of Development, VP of Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs and DCI leaders to maximize volunteer impact, working with leadership to align purpose of board to match institutional priorities.
Develop integrated strategy and messaging that supports efforts in all other areas (direct mail, donor relations, etc.). Make recommendations for strategic partnerships that have media and marketing implications. And other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
