Director - Law Enforcement Academy

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

UVU's Criminal Justice Department is looking for a new Director for the Law Enforcement Academy, a satellite of the state POST academy. Here are some of the duties required: Manages and directs the Utah Valley University satellite Police Academy. Strategically plans and staffs all teaching positions within the academy. Formulates and administers the annual operating budget. Allocates funds to ensures lawful expenditure and the effective operation of the program. Supervises program instructors and one program administrator. Recruits students into the program. Develops and maintains partnerships with the State of Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training to meet goals, objectives and state certification of the program. Represents Law Enforcement Academy and UVU locally and at the, state, regional, and national level. Attends the monthly Utah County Chief's meeting.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.

Extensive knowledge of all Utah POST requirements. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Skills in interpersonal problem-solving. Skills in ordering equipment and supplies. Ability in hiring practices and personnel supervision. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, non-verbally, and in writing. Ability to develop and enforce policy and procedures. Ability to plan, manage, evaluate, and achieve goals. Ability to assess organization and individual performance, analyze budgets, and approve contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk and stand for a few hours at a time. Must be able to drive a car. Must have a reasonable amount of physical endurance. Must be able to attend evening and night classes.

Pay Range: $48,117 - $64,157
