Essential functions of this position:
This position provides support primarily for events in Kenan Auditorium and Beckwith Recital Hall, including UNCW Presents, Seahawk Family Arts Matinees, Lumina Festival of the Arts, concerts in both venues as scheduled by the Department of Music, and a wide variety of rental events. Various campus venues may also be supported by this position given availability and appropriate resources. Events are defined as live events requiring advanced audio and or lighting expertise, performing arts/theatre knowledge and equipment knowledge. Technical Director may provide technical support of hardware, applications, operating systems, networking and rigging as related to event production. This position requires a broad understanding of a wide variety of technologies to effectively support clients’ technical needs. This position will interact with a broad range of clients requiring strong communication skills and ability to use a wide variety of technical resources for providing a high level technical support to clients. Specific responsibilities include coordinating all technical and staffing aspects of events provided by Auditorium Director for Kenan Auditorium or Beckwith Recital Hall. This position’s main function is to be the technical lead/on-site contact for live events, using their expertise to ensure the highest quality standards while ensuring the event goes according to plans and budget. Technical Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to, audio and lighting design, determining specific equipment solutions for events, recruiting, scheduling, supervising and training tech staff, providing internal consulting duties as needed on university projects, performing upkeep and maintenance on a variety of audio/visual/theatrical equipment, etc. The Technical Director shall provide both routine and non-routine in-depth support for event production, act in support of the Auditorium Director, and perform any other duties as assigned by management.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in theatre arts, and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Advanced theatrical lighting and live audio engineering and design skills are a necessity
Experience supervising other personnel and managing small budgets
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Minimum five years experience in performance venue operations, theatre events coordination, and demonstrable in-depth familiarity with state of the art audio, lighting and miscellaneous theatre equipment use and maintenance
Recruitment Range: $36,000 - $45,000
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 65
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
