Job Description

Property Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reports to: Controller

Responsible for the preparation of all accounting entries and maintenance of the general ledger for assigned retail properties; also responsible for related internal reporting including analysis of variances to budgeted amounts.



• Bachelors Degree in Accounting


• Minimum of four years of general ledger accounting experience

• Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures

• Proficient in Windows/Word/Excel and other PC-based computer applications

• Experience with large-scale database accounting systems; MRI preferred

• Management experience preferred


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Well-organized, analytical and detail oriented

• Flexible and able to multi-task


• Preparation of all general ledger entries for assigned retail properties

• Preparation of analysis and explanation of variances to budget

• Document and reconcile all accounting entries for assigned properties

• Preparation of reconciliations of bank and gift certificate accounts

• Preparation of utility billings to tenants

• Preparation of audit workpapers in support of all journal entries and assigned account balances

• Preparation of billings for temporary tenants for assigned properties

• Preparation of quarterly consolidated balance sheet account analysis

• Preparation of portions of the annual budgets related to assigned properties

• Preparation of annual reconciliations of expense billings to tenants for assigned properties

• Provide support to on-site property managers

• Perform additional assignments requested by management
