Job Description

The School of Communication and Media (SCM) at Montclair State University invites applications for a tenure track position in Television and Digital Media. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Successful candidates will bring a strong mix of academic, professional, and technical experience in television and digital media and should be skilled in using their expertise in industry-aware instruction of primarily undergraduate students. Candidates should be well versed in current media technology, storytelling techniques, and best practices to produce high-quality content on multi-media digital platforms. Teaching assignments may include introductory and advanced courses in Studio Production, Field Production and Editing, Television Production, Media Ethics, and Media Management. Candidates should be excited to convert their expertise into impactful teaching and curriculum development. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership for the evolution of academic programs and project initiatives that fully exploit the potential of new 4K and HD studios as well as a multiplatform newsroom.

This faculty member will be expected to maintain an active research/creative agenda that includes scholarly and/or applied projects. S/he will also have the opportunity to engage fully and constructively with service opportunities, including advising students on their academic programs and career development, interviewing applicants for potential admission to the program, and supervising student internships during the course of the academic year. In addition, s/he will collaborate with students, faculty, and staff on a variety of production projects.

The School of Communication and Media has just moved into its new 105,000 square foot building, complete with state-of-the art production, teaching, and research facilities, and it is poised for remarkable success and growth. The School has over 800 majors in undergraduate tracks that include public relations, communication studies, communication and media arts, filmmaking, journalism, and television and digital media. The School also offers an M.A. degree in Public & Organizational Relations. Faculty work closely with students to provide guidance for organized academic, project-based, and entrepreneurial activities through the School's PRSSA Chapter, its Lambda Pi Eta Chapter, the Montclarion newspaper, its radio station (WMSC-FM),, the Dumont Television Center, and a thriving Internship program that connects students to a vast network of placements, including the outstanding opportunities throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area.

Qualifications & Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will have the combination of academic and professional experience necessary to prepare students for meaningful careers in a dynamic and evolving industry. A terminal degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred, although applicants with significant professional experience in the field will also be considered.

Salary Range
Commensurate with experience.
