Job Summary:

This position supports the Russell Labs Administrative Center (RLAC) that serves the Departments of Entomology, Forest and Wildlife Ecology, and Plant Pathology, along with related programs administered through the RLAC including the Wisconsin Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit. The Financial Specialist 3 will work under limited supervision of the Financial Specialist Program Supervisor and general direction from the Academic Department Manager.

The Financial Specialist works with academic researchers, graduate assistants, research interns, student hourly, LTEs and volunteers to provide financial management of grants, gifts and research work orders to oversee the budget needs of researchers. The incumbent is responsible for following Federal, State, University and College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) policies and procedures in processing a wide variety of fiscal transactions, assisting the Financial Specialist Program Supervisor, and other financial staff in the processing of transactions administered through the Center.

The incumbent assists in the management and processing of fiscal transactions including corrective actions for purchases entered into the PVS Net Purchasing Card System. The incumbent will also perform the purchasing of supplies and equipment, approve and process travel expenses and fill in for other work in the RLAC. The incumbent coordinates fairly complex purchases made by faculty, staff and students and monitors expenditures of various dollar amounts that can be between different departments, colleges and funding agencies. The incumbent troubleshoots purchasing issues on behalf of the RLAC and prepares a variety of general accounting forms for the Center, i.e., e-reimbursement, PIRs and Direct Charges. The incumbent prepares the requisitions and internal work orders and helps maintain MDS numbing data .The incumbent must have a working knowledge of PC operations and the ability to use software such as Microsoft Word, Access and Excel, web browsers and associated documents. The incumbent has knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, ability to work independently, organize effectively and make independent, sound judgments and communicate effectively while processing purchasing, payroll and human resources documents. The incumbent has knowledge of fiscal procedures for processing Accounting Service forms and has good interpersonal skills necessary for working effectively as a team member with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
