Doctoral Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Virology, or Biochemistry. Understanding of experimental procedures used to study viral pathogenesis and viral regulation of cell signaling responses. Knowledge of cell signaling pathways, analysis of cell proteins and transcriptional responses, and familiarity with endothelial cell signaling responses, functions and interactions.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Virology. Prior experience with Flavavirus or Hantavirus. Prior experience with cultivating BSL3 viral pathogenesis and the use of BSL3 facilities. Two (2)- Five (5) years of Molecular Biology experience. Analysis of signaling pathway responses in virally infected cell culture settings. Analysis of endothelial cell permeability responses.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will be with a team of scientists, graduate students and technicians in the lab of Dr. Erich Mackow in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. The incumbent will perform research on Zika virus, Dengue virus or Hantavirus and ensure that all experiments are conducted appropriately and follow policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

The postdoctoral associate will be expected to perform Zika, Dengue, or Hantavirus experiments and analyze data following viral infection of primary cells and cell lines in BSL2/3 settings. The postdoctoral associate will analyze viral protein regulation of cell signaling pathways, protein expression and transcriptional responses.

Conduct research experiments using recombinant DNA approaches to generate and evaluate viral genes, proteins and their interactions with cellular proteins, signaling pathways, and the regulation of functional, transcriptional and phosphorylation responses. Work with and direct experimental studies and study analysis of technicians and graduate students. Document data generated in studies, collect data, analyze data and prepare manuscripts and figures for publication in scientific journals and national and international scientific meetings and assist with grant reports, grant proposal writing and compliance reports. General Lab maintenance and ordering of supplies needed for studies. Other duties as assigned Special Notes: FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
