Primary Position Function/Summary
Develop and conduct initiatives aimed at attracting junior and community college students to complete a bachelor's degree in curricula offered by the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and to assist them with the transition through admissions counseling, pre-advising, and related support of and referral services to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and direct activities to increase community college students, counselors and instructors awareness of the educational programs and career opportunities available in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
Actively recruit transfer students from community colleges, other colleges, DGS at UIUC campus into ACES.
Develop strategies and plan for execution of the strategies to increase transfer student numbers by 20% in 3-5 years in the College of ACES. Increase "Pathways" program to other community Colleges beyond Parkland College.
Actively visit Illinois community college partners and college counselors on a regular basis and educate them on ACES curriculum, and scholarships and career opportunities.
Work with the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment in the Office of Academic Programs with all new student recruitment activities as needed. Work with the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment to increase the number of community college participating in the college's transfer programs by building relationships with advisors, counselors, and transfer student specialists
Support the college's transfer program which aims to provide a seamless transition to the College of ACES for qualified junior or community college students; advise students and families of admission requirements, transfer guidelines, general financial aid and ACES scholarship information.
Create and maintain curriculum guides that inform community college students about their college's coursework that will meet admission and degree requirements for ACES majors; advise students and families of admission requirements, transfer guidelines, general financial aid and ACES scholarship information.
Work collaboratively with Urbana college and campus units focused on outreach to community colleges such as the ACES ACCESS program, the U of I TEAM project, Parkland Pathways to Illinois programs and other related initiatives, to coordinate activities to recruit qualified transfer students for ACES undergraduate programs.
Offer admission and course planning and advising to students interested in transferring to the College of ACES; provide follow-up to students via phone, letters, email and scheduled appointments.
Represent the college as assigned on outreach and recruitment program and special activities held in community colleges around the state
Develop and implement workshops impacting the educational and career awareness of community college instructors, counselors and administrators.
Develop promotional and recruitment materials for transfer admissions
Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, personal schedule, travel, special programs, professional development, enrolled students, and graduation data.
Support the college's mission of encouraging students from under-represented populations to gain admittance and graduate from the college
Requires frequent travel to Illinois community colleges; adhering to University policies and procedures regarding travel and procurement.
Position Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in any areas related to agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences or higher education.
Preferred a Master's degree in any area related to agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences or higher education.
At least two years of experience working in areas related to student recruitment, admissions, and/or advising is required. Professional experience to include: Working with undergraduate students from junior or community colleges and with students of multi-cultural backgrounds; demonstrated success in establishing working relationships with college counselors and or administrators, strong oral and written communication skills; and strong interpersonal skills
Additional desirable qualifications: Understanding of the food, agricultural, natural resources, and human science systems as represented in curricula offered by the College of ACES; experience with admissions process and procedures by the UIUC Office of Undergraduate Admissions and ACES Academic Programs, and previous experience in creating articulated curriculum guides for transfer admission are highly desirable.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Appointment Status: 100% full time, 12 months
Proposed Starting Date: As soon as possible after the closing date.
