Duties: Reporting to the Deputy Vice Dean, this position is responsible for the overall vision and effectiveness of student community building, support services, and extra-curricular activities in the MBA Program. The Director plays a central role in creating, maintaining, programming and assessing a comprehensive strategy aimed to create a strong community amongst all MBA students regardless of racial and ethnic background, gender, class, sexual orientation, and prior experiences. The work of this position affects the student culture beginning with pre-matriculation events such as Wharton Welcome Weekend, the School's major yield event, through orientation, the students' two years on campus and finally through to graduation.

Foster a strong working relationship with the student government. Promote a caring and supportive relation with all students. Proactively be aware of student needs. Provide appropriate training to staff and affiliated student groups to ensure the MBA program provides an inclusive and supportive environment to all students.

Work closely with senior members of the MBA Program leadership team to support the academic mission of the program. Responsible for the Student Life Fellows selection, training and mission of integrating students into the MBA cohort and cluster experiences. Also, direct the Welcome Committee. Provide oversight for management and delivery of programs and services in the 2401 Walnut Street facility. Create and develop systematic ways to assess, continually improve, and renew student life programs -- benchmarking them against best practices, gathering data for informed decision making to enhance the MBA student experience.

Serve as primary liaison to students, acting as an advisor to the vice dean, dean, deputy dean, and chief of staff on matters relating to students. Play key role as campus liaison to Vice Provost for University Life, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Graduate Student Center, Women's Center, Office of Student Conduct, Student Health, Division of Public Safety, Multicultural Centers, and GAPSA. Proactively develop help and support resources. Support MBA students in managing and balancing the demands of academic, community, and career work; increase the visibility and student awareness of all available resources within Wharton and across the Penn campus.

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of six full-time staff members with overall responsibility for the creation, implementation, and assessment of student life advising, extra-curricular student clubs and conferences, Student Life Fellows, the Wharton Graduate Association, Young Alumni Program and MBA events. Serve as primary contact to Director of Events for the school; responsible for successful implementation of events, meetings and MBA graduation, working in collaboration with the Director of Events for the school and Wharton External Affairs.

This role requires evening and non-business hours.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree is required and 7 years to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Seven plus years of increasing responsibility in a relevant business or academic setting. A thorough understanding of student needs in an MBA environment and an ability to shape and lead efforts to support students. Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse work force. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. An ability to exercise independent decision-making and handle complex, confidential issues, in a fast-paced, demanding, changing environment.
