The Smith College School for Social Work invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions with the rank open to candidates at the assistant, associate and full professor ranks.

Position One – Clinical Practice

Candidates for this position will be able to contribute to teaching and administration in clinical practice. We seek candidates with an innovative program of research and teaching expertise, who can advance our mission of excellence in clinical social work education. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to antiracism and anti-oppressive practice.

 

Junior scholars will have a well-defined program of research relevant to clinical social work practice with individuals, families, couples or groups, and will show promise for developing innovative approaches to clinical social work practice. A record of successful teaching experience, particularly in social work practice courses is preferred.

 

Senior scholars will have an established program of research, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. A record of leadership in administration and in the mentoring of junior colleagues is preferred. We are committed to remaining a leader in clinical social work education and are seeking scholars particularly interested in developing new methodological or substantive approaches to contemporary challenges in clinical social work.

 

A master’s degree from an accredited school of social work, and a doctoral degree in social work or a closely related field are required. Candidates at the junior level should have a minimum of five years of post-master’s clinical practice experience, ideally with supervisory or leadership experience. Candidates at the senior level should have a demonstrated record of clinical leadership, as well as direct practice experience. Appointments will be made at a level appropriate to the qualifications and track record of the successful applicant. Rank and salary will be commensurate with expertise and experience.  Appointments will begin July 2018.

Position Two – Open

Candidates for this position should be able to contribute to teaching and administration in one or more of the four areas of our curriculum including: social work practice (see above for practice position qualifications), human behavior and the social environment, social policy, and social work research. We seek candidates who with an innovative program of research and teaching expertise. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to antiracism and anti-oppressive practice.

 

Junior scholars will have a well-defined program of research, and show promise for developing innovative approaches to social work practice, teaching, and research. A record of successful teaching experience is preferred.

 

Senior scholars will have an established program of research and demonstrated excellence in teaching,. A record of leadership in administration and in the mentoring of junior colleagues is preferred. We are committed to remaining a leader in clinical social education and are seeking scholars particularly interested in developing new methodological or substantive approaches to contemporary challenges in social work.

 

A doctorate in social work or a closely related field (completed prior to the start of the appointment) is required. An MSW from an accredited school of social work is preferred. Appointments will be made at a level appropriate to the qualifications and track record of the successful applicant. Rank and salary will be commensurate with expertise and experience.  Appointments will begin July 2018.

 

The School for Social Work

Smith College School for Social Work faculty have expertise in relationally-based, culturally responsive practice that is firmly grounded in a synthesis of psychological and social theories and a commitment to antiracism and anti-oppressive practice. The curriculum is designed to educate students for the provision of effective clinical social work services with diverse communities in agency settings as well as with vulnerable and underserved populations. The program is known for its intensive field internships based across the United States and offers both an M.S.W. and Ph.D. The Smith SSW places a strong emphasis on both scholarship and teaching in considerations for tenure and promotion.
