The University of Florida (UF) is a public land-grant institution and a member of the Association of American Universities enrolling over 50,000 students, including 36,000 undergraduates. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students (AVP/DOS) provides overall leadership and supervision to the Dean of Students office which includes: Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution for both academic integrity and conduct issues; New Student and Family Programs, which includes first year experience class (First Year Florida), orientation (Preview Program for first year and transfer students and on-line orientation for graduate and on-line students), Convocation, Weeks of Welcome, and the New Student Alcohol Education Program; the Newell Hall Learning Commons; care advocacy related functions including chairing U Matter We Care and the medical withdrawal process; the Veterans Success Center; and the Hitchcock Food Pantry. The Office of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs and the Counseling and Wellness Center also report to this position. The AVP/DOS serves as the Division of Student Affairs crisis manager including managing student emergencies through an on-call deans response team and direct consultation and notification roles, division emergency management plans, serving on the Emergency Operations Team, chairing the Crisis Response Team, chairing the Behavioral Consultation Team, and serving on the University’s Risk/Threat Assessment Team. The AVP/DOS is responsible for the development and expenditure of budgeted funds totaling approximately $2.4 million and supervision of 24 full-time and over 200 part-time staff.

A master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience are required. An earned doctorate degree in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field and at least eight years of progressive administrative experience in student affairs or a related field are preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in student care, crisis management, fiscal matters, student conduct, and conflict resolution.
