The position of Associate Director of Housing Operations (ADHO) is a 12-month live-in position that reports to the Director of Student Life. The ADHO provides leadership for the housing operations while closely collaborating with Student Services, Dining Services, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs. The ADHO has responsibility for residence education programs, supervision of student staff members, serves in the on-call rotation, and facilities student health, safety, and success for approximately 475 residents. The candidate resides in a Conklin Hall apartment. The furnished one bedroom apartment includes a kitchen, cable, electric, and wireless internet. The Associate Director of Housing Operations must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. The responsibilities of the Associate Director of Housing are:

  • Create and maintain an occupancy management system (Housing Director-Adirondack) to ensure high levels of occupancy including the completion of applications, contracts, housing deposits, and immunizations.
  • Supervise, update, and track student records in Banner and Adirondack. Collaborate with Student Financial Services to ensure accurate housing and meal plan billing.
  • Conduct individual employee and group employee meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide interventions and support students through emergency situations, mental health and medical incidents, roommate conflicts, and conduct concerns.
  • Provide guidance and coach students, both individually and in groups, concerning academic, social, and personal problems.
  • Enter damage billing, fines, assessments, and lost key charges.
  • Coordinate with the Association business office to refund housing deposits, bill sanction fines, and collect housing application fees.
  • Facilitate housing application and housing assignment process.
  • Oversee and provide leadership for the implementation of fall, spring and summer check-in and check-out processes including room condition form completion, residential student exit survey, and information packets.
  • Monitor the registration status, account balance, and immunizations of residential students and issue communications letters, as needed.
  • Oversee room changes (mediate when necessary); coordinate key changes; continuously update housing roster to reflect changes; and send an electronic version of rosters to Campus Safety and Security, Health Office, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Dean of Students Office, Counseling Center, Student Financial Services, and residential staff.
  • Work with the Director of Student Life to create and manage the residential student orientations.
  • Manage and maintain up to date website content, maintain a consistent social media presence, and collaborate with Public Relations and Admissions to create and implement housing promotional and recruitment materials.
  • Serve as the liaison and collaborate with departments to establish housing business processes and deadlines.
  • Monitor reports of students indicating the need for reasonable accommodations and collaborate with Accommodative Services to confirm that students have housing accommodations.
  • Create, implement, and update a digital emergency contact database for residential students.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Life, revise and maintain residential publications.
  • Review and recommend student academic residency exemptions.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Conferences to create and implement a marketing/communication plan to ensure residential students are aware of their meal plan balances.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports regarding student academic progress, residential student retention, meal plans, housing occupancy totals, and housing operations.
  • Partner with Director of Student Life and Facilities in the supervision of residence hall facilities.
  • Conduct investigations of incidents that violate the DCC Campus Code of Conduct and the Conklin Hall Residence Hall Handbook that occur in the residence hall and adjudicate low-level conduct cases for incidents that occur in Conklin Hall within established guidelines.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Life, supervise Residence Life and Housing: Secretary, resident assistants, and student employees. Indirectly supervise professional employees.
  • Serve of college committees including conduct hearing committees.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Life to create a comprehensive student staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

It is important to recognize that the demands of a residence life position are different from other jobs. The following events/time periods are mandatory and offer less time flexibility than usual weeks:

  • Late July/August Professional Staff and Student Staff Training
  • Hall Opening/Closing
  • Winter Break
  • Paraprofessional Staff Selection
  • January Professional Staff and Student Staff Training
  • Thanksgiving, Spring Break, and Winter Break Closing

The Associate Director for Housing Operations is considered an essential employee of the Association and may be required to work in order to provide essential services for students when other staff cannot. This may include official college closing due to extreme weather or other emergencies, and when other professional staff members may not be able to be on campus.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Masters Degree is required; 2-4 years of professional residential experience in a college setting is required; 1-3 years of on-call rotation experience; time management; supervisory experience; and experience in occupancy management, managing a budget, and supervision of full time staff. Ability to integrate student development theories and practice into work. Computer and standard office equipment.

Preferred: Experience with housing software systems and community college housing.

The compensation for this 12-month live-in position includes:

  • Salary Range: low $40s to mid $40s s based on education and experience
