The University of Northern Colorado (UNC), a Carnegie-classified doctoral/research institution, invites applications and nominations for Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences (NHS). The Dean will be an innovative academic leader with the proven leadership and administrative skills that will help continue a long history of excellence within the College and the University.
For 125 years, the University of Northern Colorado has been highly regarded for its prestigious programs, innovation and highly qualified faculty teacher-scholars who are committed to student success. Students and faculty collaborate and learn as they have for generations with a vision of higher education that fuses learning with community engagement, research, passion and transformation. UNC educates approximately 13,000 students per year from all 50 states and 49 countries who attend classes on a beautiful 260-acre campus. There are over 100 undergraduate and 100-plus graduate programs of study spread among six colleges: Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Education and Behavioral Sciences, Natural and Health Sciences, Performing and Visual Arts, and University College. With more than 2,000 courses available, university advisors help students build an education that will make them competitive in the global job market.
The Dean is responsible for all academic programs, fiscal resources, and personnel within the College, provides leadership to support faculty and staff development, ensures graduate and undergraduate program innovation and excellence, and facilitates faculty research and sponsored program advancement. The Dean actively participates in the University’s fundraising and alumni initiatives and academic engagement. The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and is expected to work collaboratively and in partnership with members of the Provost’s Leadership Team and members of the University community.
The successful candidate for this role will have an earned terminal degree from an accredited institution in a field represented in the College. The next dean will have an established record of distinguished teaching, research/scholarship and service consistent with a tenured faculty appointment as Professor at UNC. This person will have demonstrated accomplishments at increasing levels of administrative responsibility, evidence of potential for providing innovative and effective leadership, and proven commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion.
