Stanford Medicine is seeking a mid-career full-stack Java software developer to join the Research IT team in the Office of Information Resources and Technology (https://researchit.stanford.edu). Research IT delivers the next generation of tools and services used by researchers, research participants, patients and clinicians to collect, discover, segment and analyze data, make discoveries and improve human health and wellness.

You will be designing and implementing solutions in support of a managed interdisciplinary research data commons, comprising clinical, molecular, and imaging data. Your initial project involves our petascale image repository containing imaging studies in the following modalities: Computed Tomography, Digital Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron emission tomography, Ultrasound, and X-Ray Angiography. The repository needs a GUI search tool to identify imaging studies of potential interest to specific research protocols. Other projects will follow over time.

We are looking for a someone with the following qualifications
  • Strong expertise in server side Java
  • Proficiency in Javascript, DHTML, CSS, Ajax, REST
  • Working familiarity with modern web development frameworks such as Angular
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and workflows e.g. the newly (FDA) approved Philips Slide Scanner, data management and data visualization tools
  • Prior experience with one or more of GE PACS, Agfa PACS, Epic Radiant Radiology Information System (RIS), GE RIS, DICOM Router, and DICOM related image management tools would be a big plus
  • Working experience with Python would also be nice
In addition to your primary role as a full-stack software developer, other duties may include:
  • Work with faculty, researcher, and executive stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Harmonize conflicting requirements, communicate tradeoffs to all stakeholders, and propose compromise solutions as needed
  • Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects with dependencies on other groups.
  • Serve as a technical resource for applications.
  • Follow team software development methodology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Knowledge of application domain.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
