Job Description:

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Applied Professional Practice (APP) serves as an integral member of the Clinical Psy.D. Department's training team including 2 Associate Directors and 1 Director of Applied Professional Practice. APP oversees student training placements including practicum and internship search processes, training placements, and monitoring student practicum performance. Associate Directors of Training act as secondary advisers to students related to professional goals and development, as well as interfacing with practicum supervisors and academic advisers on training-related matters. The Associate Director engages in practicum site visits, site development, and serves as point of contact for practicum training sites for concerns with students and information on providing training. This position reports to the Clinical Psy.D. Director of Applied Professional Practice, and is accountable through the Director to the Department Chair of Clinical Psychology and the Director of the Office of Applied Professional Practice. The Associate Director is a member of the Clinical Psychology program faculty and teaches at the discretion of the Department Chair.

Principal Duties:
  • Serve as a secondary advisor (APP Point Person) all students in the Clinical PsyD Program
  • Engage in innovative ideas around how to continue to advance training to seek new opportunities within the field, while maintaining best practices related to training
  • Assist students in site selection and review of application materials for practicum and doctoral internship
  • Monitor progress of practicum performance of assigned students through scheduled meetings and review of evaluations and hour logs
  • Assist students with site issues that may arise during training
  • Communicate with site contacts on training progress and issues
  • Advise on and engage in remediation planning for students
  • Oversee site development, maintenance, and tracking of changes and updates
  • Conduct site visits and consult with site supervisors to build relationships manage student or site issues, and to ensure quality training
  • Participate on a faculty council committee
  • Attend monthly faculty council meetings during the academic term
  • Attend program faculty meetings and retreats
  • Prepare, update, and create manuals, PowerPoints, and other resource materials
  • Track data related to practicum and internship placements
  • Work with APP database managers to update site information and answer questions
  • Support TCSPP mission and commitment to Multicultural Competency
  • Communicate with academic department around issues of professional development, training concerns, rules and regulations, and the search and placement process
  • Teach, as assigned by the Department Chair
  • Participate in Chicago area training association meetings
  • Engage in the identification and implementation of internship training opportunities
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Director of APP for Clinical PsyD
  • Support administrative duties as related to the role of the Director of the Office of APP
  • Maintain ethical behavior and the ability to demonstrate ethical discussion making related to concerns regarding practicum training
  • Participate in re-accreditation efforts
  • Demonstrate a team based approach with other members of the APP Clinical PsyD training department
  • Consult with Director of APP and APP staff members
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of best practices related to clinical training
  • Computer proficiency - Microsoft Office
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Data management and analysis
  • Demonstrate a previous commitment to multicultural competency through their work and scholarship
  • Site development skills are an asset
  • Academic preparation for and demonstrated ability to teach doctoral-level courses in clinical psychology

Position Qualifications:
  • Licensed Clinical Psychologist
  • Doctorate in Psychology
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and access to a car to visit training sites as needed
  • Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience teaching at the graduate level and academic and professional background in the following content areas : Cognitive -Affective basis of behavior, Cognitive -Behavioral /ACT/DBT theory and intervention, Systems Theory and Practice, Neuropsychology)
