MGR MUSEUM COLLECTIONS
Duties: The Off-site Collections Manager is responsible for the housing and maintenance of the Museum's off-site collections, under the supervision of the Head of Collections (and the Egyptian Section's Curators). The primary responsibility of the position is the management of the Museum's collections in order to preserve them for posterity and provide access to them to the Museum's many stakeholders. This includes: inventorying, researching, and documenting the collections, improving its storage conditions as possible, assisting in the preparation of in-house exhibitions, traveling exhibits, loans, and insurance appraisals, and the providing of digital and hands-on access to the collections to Penn students and faculty, interested researchers, and the general public. The Off-site Collections Manager sits on the Museum's Collections Committee and may serve on a rotating basis on the Museum's Acquisitions and Exhibitions Committees. This is a one-year, term funded position, with renewal subject to Museum needs and available funding.
Qualifications: Minimum: BA/BS, with an MA in Egyptology (or related fields) and/or an MA in Museum Studies (Collections Management) strongly preferred, 2-3 years experience required, or equivalent combination of education and work experience; broad knowledge of Ancient Egyptian material culture, including archaeological and papyrological materials, and record of involvement in excavations and/or field research preferred. Working of knowledge of several phases of ancient Egyptian languages (hieroglyph and hieratic) necessary. Familiarity with Demotic and Coptic languages helpful. Computer literate, with knowledge of collections management databases preferred. Organizational skills and attention to detail required. Supervisory experience preferred. Multi-tasking and collaborative abilities required. Art handling experience preferred. Manual dexterity required. Ability to travel and lift more than 25 lbs is required. Valid driver's license required.
