Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Accounting or Finance is strongly preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum 2 years experience required.

responsibilities and is required to have excellent interpersonal skills as well as an understanding of
the structure, policies, procedures, and automated financial management systems of both the
University and UW Foundation (UWF). The candidate is expected to model a high degree of

- Knowledge and experience in generally accepted accounting principles and procedures (GAAP).

- Experience in providing financial services in a complex service environment.

Position Summary:

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement (DDEEA) accountant will work on finanical, purchasing, budget, and accounting policy and procedure for the division. The accountant will be responsible for interpreting policy, ensuring compliance, advising and recommending staff on all aspects of financial, purchasing, budgeting, and accounting policy and procedure, reporting and audting, divisional and departmental budget planning, leadership and training, and grant management.

Additional Information:

This position serves as the Accountant for the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational
Achievement (DDEEA) and the Office of the Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer (OVPCDO). The
DDEEA has a direct budget of approximately $10 million dollars and 80 FTE in permanent staff. The
DDEEA supports the mission of the University of Wisconsin - Madison as it works to create a diverse,
inclusive, and excellent learning and work environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and
others who partner with the University. The Accountant is responsible for control and oversight of
the financial activity generated for the campus-wide diversity programs and from the division funding
sources, including funds 101, 133, 136, 144, 145, 233, 402, and gift funds at the UW Foundation.
Functional activities at the division include instruction and research, student services, outreach, and
public service. In total, the DDEEA's annual expenditures exceed $20 million. The Accountant
position provides administrative/accounting support to the DDEEA in preparing, reviewing, and
approving financial transactions for division level units, and reviews and approves financial
transactions from departments within the division. The position is also responsible for preparing the
annual budget and fiscal reports. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager and will
lead the departmental financial team.
